I may have accidentally discovered a really cool "2-from-'22" action double feature > CRAWLSPACE (2022) w/ HENRY THOMAS & THE SURPRISE VISIT (2022) w/ ERIC ROBERTS

 STOP 008 UNEXPECTED DETOUR

Henry Thomas is a conscientious plumber. His wife (Olivia Taylor Dudley) gets on his case about being too nice and extending too much credit to his customers. He goes out on a job and, to his misfortune, two bad-guy poachers have decided to stash a big bag of cash that day in the crawlspace under the house. When they discover he's down there—literally crawling between them and their money—a big cat-and-mouse game ensues, and it isn't pretty for anyone involved.

A satisfying enough thriller, and what I like to call a “good two-star movie.” Thomas is good, but nothing along the lines of All the Pretty Horses or some of his other work. Filmed in Oregon, it makes good use of the isolated setting and keeps things moving without trying to be more than it is. 2.0 stars/5

The mullet is back and wants money for drugs.

The Surprise Visit is a more-than-effective suspense thriller about a couple of drug addicts who rob a rich lady's house thinking she's out of town and let's just say things don't go so well. There's serious choices to be made if they're going to cover their tracks.

The legendary Eric Roberts has a supporting role here as the drug addict's father and as usual is excellent. There's a lot of great talent in the acting department here but the real star is the performance by up-and-coming Regan Ferrier. She kills it as the confused and delusional druggie's girlfriend suddenly swept into something she can't control. She's so good she borders on stealing the show.

Thumbs up for The Surprise Visit! 3.0 stars/5
